The Silk Road Portfolio

A tribute to the historic port of Machilipatnam, once a vibrant hub of the global textile trade along the Coromandel Coast, the Silk Road Portfolio celebrates the heritage of Pedana Kalamkari—a craft shaped by the meeting of Indian artistry and Persian design influences. Using hand-carved wooden blocks, artisans recreate the intricate floral patterns and iconic Tree of Life motifs reminiscent of the celebrated Coromandel chintz that traveled to royal courts and global markets between the 16th and 18th centuries. Printed with traditional natural dyes such as madder and indigo, each piece reflects the enduring elegance of a textile tradition that continues to embody centuries of craftsmanship, cultural exchange, and timeless design.
